I want to make reference to artist precarious situation in society. That is that neither the present nor the past nor the future can prevent the artist to be on the brink of disaster. Therefore I consider the unfolded paraglide to be THE image of missing certainty for the artist to be accepted and recognised. This performance is perfect for uncertainty and balance. Taking a position of jumping and keeping in balance challenges an experience of feeling weightlessness, and transmitting the thoughts without borders. Also the confrontation with my insecure self, my own fears and instability, is a challenge. In the paragliding, the most important moment is when the umbrella is open and reaching the ground. Naturally it is my aim to reach this moment in one combination. © Iris Selke
