I once read that the expressionist austrian painter EGON SCHIELE spent some time in prison. Simply from his memory he sculpted heads out of breadcrumbs. I am interested in certain positive aspects of isolation which one might need in order to become conscious of one’s self – in a way of being able to completely focus on memories and visions without distraction. Silence is the key to the inner voice. In preparation for the film I experienced the psychological aspects of isolation in a short-term field study in the prison of Braunschweig. As an artist I perceive isolation as a necessary ingredient in the creative process, as a way of transforming experience or information into art, as well as I see it as a sociological reflection on my position as an artist in society.
Nach Studien zu den psychologischen Folgen von Isolation in der JVA Braunschweig entstand dieser Film. Hier interessiert mich das Umsetzen angestauter oder negativer Energien in einen positiven Schaffensfluss, dessen einzige Quelle aus Bildern besteht, die aus der Vergangenheit erinnert werden.
